“I’ve coached a lot of good point guards the last few years and she’s right there as one of the best,” 20th-year Blinn head coach Jeff Jenkins said. “We’ve had guards who have been MVPs of our conference, All-Americans … we’ve had a lot of great point guards and she stands out. She was our best player this season on a team that had a lot of accomplishments.”

Brown, a Lamar University commit from Houston, played an integral role in leading the 17th-ranked Buccaneers to their first Region XIV regular-season championship (a title they shared with Trinity Valley Community College). Brown was a first-team all-region selection and went on to average almost 14 points and three assists per game during the Region XIV Tournament, earning tournament MVP honors as Blinn won the tournament crown to reach the NJCAA Division I Women’s Basketball Championship tournament.

On the season, Brown paced the Buccaneers with 13.6 points per game and 4.6 assists to go with a team-best 42.2% shooting mark from 3-point range. She also was a defensive presence with a team-high 1.9 steals per contest. Brown led the region in 3-point shooting percentage and was second in assists. Her efforts earned her an NJCAA Division I second-team All-America selection and a commitment to Division I Lamar University.

“This is an honor, and I wouldn’t have won the award without my teammates, so I want to thank them for believing in me and trusting me with the ball in my hands,” Brown said. “Winning the Don Wilhelm Award isn’t possible without having great teammates around you, so this is a team award.”

In two seasons with the Buccaneers, Brown scored 622 points, dished out 236 assists, and tallied 91 steals.

Blinn finished its 2021-22 season with a 28-5 record, which included a 14-4 mark in Region XIV.

The Wilhelm Award is named after former Blinn College athletic director Don Wilhelm, an NJCAA Hall of Famer who served the college for 10 years.

Blinn has competed in intercollegiate athletics since 1903 and captured 42 NJCAA national championships since 1987.
