Former Brazos ISD Athletic Director Ryan Roecker has been taken into custody by the Wallis Police Department following a Grand Jury indictment. The indictment is connected to a 2024 school year investigation into the alleged theft of an undisclosed amount from the Brazos ISD athletic department, according to a statement from the district.
Brazos ISD reports that the case began in 2024, when the district identified financial concerns during an internal review. Officials say the district immediately turned its findings over to law enforcement and has continued to cooperate throughout the investigation.
In a statement shared publicly on the Brazos ISD Facebook page, the district state:
“Brazos ISD promptly provided our internal investigation to law enforcement in 2024, and we have continued to cooperate fully with them.”
The district emphasized its commitment to transparency and protection of taxpayer resources:
“We have a responsibility to our students, staff, and community to ensure the financial integrity of our school system. Brazos ISD remains committed to transparency, accountability, and the responsible stewardship of taxpayer resources.”
The district also added that it will not comment further on the case to avoid interfering with the legal process.
According to official board minutes, Roecker’s resignation as Athletic Director was unanimously accepted during a special meeting on July 24, 2024. At that same meeting, the Board unanimously approved Audie R. Jackson to serve as Interim Athletic Director and Head Football Coach for the 2024–2025 school year.
Roecker now faces formal criminal charges following the Grand Jury indictment. No additional details regarding the alleged amount or any potential additional parties have been released at this time. The case continues through the legal system, and further information is expected as court records become available.
As with all criminal matters, please remember that all individuals are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
