The battle to control the destructive feral hog population in Austin County is still going strong, thanks to the continued support of the Austin County Commissioners Court and the Feral Hog Bounty Program.

This ongoing incentive offers $5 for every feral hog harvested within the county. To qualify, participants must provide biological proof of harvestโ€”specifically, a pair of hog ears. Each set of ears must be placed in a sealed bag and dropped off at one of the following designated locations:

  • Steinhauserโ€™s in Sealy
  • Linseisenโ€™s Feed & Supply in Bellville
  • Lindemann Store in Industry

There is a monthly limit of 20 pairs of ears per household. All hogs must be taken within Austin County, and participants are required to fill out the appropriate paperwork when dropping off the evidence. The program is part of a larger regional effort to minimize environmental and agricultural damage caused by these invasive animals, which are notorious for destroying crops, property, and natural habitats.

To dive deeper into the impact of feral hogs and how this program helps, check out THIS episode of Hello Austin County, where we sit down with James โ€œJayโ€ Long, Project Coordinator with the Texas A&M Natural Resources Institute, and Stacie Villarreal, County Extension Agent for Agriculture and Natural Resources with the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service โ€“ Austin County. They discuss the importance of the program, local challenges, and what residents can do to help.
