Austin County families, get ready for a night of fun, food, and financial know-how! Youth & Family Services (YFS) invites you to their first-ever Family Game Night, happening Monday, May 5th from 6:30 to 8:30 PM at the Wallis Community Center (6810 Guyler, Building C, Wallis, TX 77485). This free community event is open to all and promises to be a fantastic evening of connection, education, and excitement! The event will feature a free taco bar and refreshments, BINGO with prizes and a focus on financial literacy to help families navigate the often confusing financial world.
Why Financial Literacy?
Financial literacy means understanding how money works and how to make smart choices with it. Families will receive simple, practical tips on how to:
-Save instead of spend
-Budget without stress
-Use credit wisely
-Plan for the future
-Understand loans, interest, and bank basics
In short, financial literacy helps you make your money work for you, so you can meet your needs, avoid financial stress, and build a secure future.
More Than Just a Game Night
While bingo and tacos bring the fun, the event is also a chance to learn about the vital work Youth & Family Services provides in the community. A local nonprofit organization, YFS is not affiliated with Child Protective Services (CPS) and does not remove children from homes. Instead, its mission is to preserve and strengthen families through supportive, accessible services.
Their Family Support Specialists (FSS) work one-on-one with youth and family members to promote emotional wellness and connect them with local resources. By focusing on prevention and early intervention, YFS helps keep families out of more acute systems such as juvenile detention, CPS, mental health institutions, or incarceration.
Whether you’re coming for the tacos, the prizes, or the life-changing knowledge, Family Game Night is a meaningful (and delicious!) way to connect with your community and support your family’s well-being.
The Wallis Chamber of Commerce is proud to support this event and encourages families from all across the area to come out and taco-bout financial literacy with us!
