The setback dropped the Buccaneers to 13-30 overall and 9-20 in the South zone. 

Blinn built a 2-0 lead in the first inning, but Coastal Bend answered with one run in the home half of the inning and another in the second frame. The Cougars then scored five runs in the bottom of the fourth to jump ahead for good.

The Buccaneers scored three runs in the top of the sixth to make it a 7-5 ballgame, but Coastal Bend answered with five runs in the five two frames.

Cole Smajstrla had a double and drove in two runs for Blinn, and Garrison Weiss doubled and also had an RBI. 

Will Gross was the pitcher of record for the Buc following 3 1/3 innings on the mound. 

Blinn continues its four-game series with the Cougars at 2 p.m. on Thursday at Fireman’s Park in Brenham.
