The field is set for the Region XIV Tournament.

The Blinn College softball team will be among eight teams vying for a berth in the NJCAA Division I Softball World Series when the postseason tournament begins Saturday, May 4, at the San Jacinto Community College Softball Fields. Admission to the complex, located at 13735 Beamer Rd in Houston, is $20 for a day pass and $50 for a tournament pass.

The Region XIV East and South each have four representatives in the bracket, and each first-round tilt will pit a team from each division against each other.

The tournament champion and consolation bracket champion will advance to the World Series, which begins May 20, at Choccolocco Park in Oxford, Ala.

The Buccaneers (34-18-1 overall) claimed the third seed in the South division with a 17-7 mark, setting up a first-round bout with second-seeded and 10th-ranked Paris Junior College. The two squads will battle it out at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday. The winner of that ballgame will face either Tyler Junior College or Galveston College in the semifinal round, while the loser will drop to the consolation bracket.

Other first-round matchups in the region tournament include the East’s top seed and No. 14 Trinity Valley (East) versus fourth-seeded Alvin Community College; the South’s top seed and 17th-ranked Galveston facing fourth-seeded Tyler; and second-seeded San Jacinto College-South (South) versus third-seeded and 18th-ranked Bossier Parish Community College.

The championship bracket will conclude with the title game at 5 p.m. on Monday, May 6, while the consolation winner will be decided at noon on Tuesday, May 7.
