The Blinn College women’s basketball team pushed its season-high winning streak to four with a 79-25 victory over Lone Star College-Tomball on Saturday at the Kruse Center in Brenham, Texas.

The Buccaneers improved to 2-0 at the Blinn Classic and are now 7-4 overall this season.

“We played fairly well after the first quarter,” Blinn head coach Jeff Jenkins said. “Today was another chance to get every player at least 10 minutes on the floor, and our defense was pretty good in the second and third quarters.”

Following a competitive first period which saw the Bucs build a 15-10 lead, the hosts quickly pulled away in the second.

Blinn outscored the Timberwolves 21-5 in the second quarter and went into halftime with a 36-15 advantage.

The Bucs kept it going with a 24-point third period while limiting Lone Star-Tomball to just two points.

Blinn was the beneficiary of a strong outing from long distance, where the Bucs drained 12 3-pointers.

Sophomore guard Mariah Houston paced Blinn with 14 points, including four 3s; sophomore guard Jasey Campbell hit three treys en route to a 13-point night; freshman guard  sank three triples and finished with 11 points; and sophomore guard Taylor Spencer and freshman forward Sami’ya Mahr had 10 apiece. Sophomore forward Cynthia LeCompte tallied eight points.

Blinn concludes the Classic with a tilt against Western Gulf College at 4 p.m. on Sunday at the Kruse Center.

Blinn has competed in intercollegiate athletics since 1903 and captured 53 national championships since 1987.
