BEEVILLE, Texas – Blinn College men’s basketball had a battle on its hands for almost the entire game until the Buccaneers pulled away in the final three minutes for a 68-50 victory over Coastal Bend College Feb. 28 in Beeville.

Blinn showed great focus on the road and was able to improve its conference record to 12-7 and 22-8 overall. The Buccaneers will be the fifth seed in the upcoming Region XIV Tournament.

Morris Dunnigan led the way with 17 points while Jalan McCloud chipped in 15 points. Lionheart Leslie scored 11 points and Ja’Cardo Hawkins tossed in 10 points in the low post.

“I thought that we played tremendous defensively,” said Blinn head coach Scott Schumacher. “This was just a grind out win.”

The game was close throughout and the Buccaneers only held a 36-29 lead at the break. The last three minutes is when Blinn was able to finally maintain a double-digit lead and move on for a victory.

“I have liked our basketball team the entire year,” Schumacher said. “Our guys have shown great resiliency and they are a great group of guys.”

Blinn will open the Region XIV Tournament against Paris Junior College March 3 at 3 p.m. in Jacksonville.

Blinn has competed in intercollegiate athletics since 1903 and captured 30 NJCAA national championships since 1987. For more information, visit www.buccaneersports.com.
