BRENHAM, Texas – With five runs batted in, Robbie Rojas supplied nearly all the scoring for Blinn College baseball and helped the team improve to 8-1 with a 6-4 victory over Weatherford College Feb. 14 at Leroy Dreyer Field in Brenham.

“Weatherford is a great team and that is the first time this season that they have been on the wrong side of it,” said Blinn head coach Harvey McIntyre. “Robbie Rojas had a great weekend and he helps to solidify our lineup.”

Rojas hit home run, double and a single in going 3 for 4 at the plate to help the Buccaneers to victory and was only a triple shy of the cycle. Patrick King also had a three-hit game with three singles. Reed Robinson supplied the only other RBI for Blinn.

Kaylor Chafin started the game on the mound for Blinn and pitched five innings and allowed two runs and struck out six. Dakota Mills closed out the remaining four innings and also allowed two runs but struck out eight.

Pitching dominated early on but Blinn was able to get on the board in the fourth as Hunter Lehman was hit by a pitch to start the inning and later came around to score after a Rojas single to right for the first run. Robinson drove in a run with a fielder’s choice to score Ben Upton for a 2-0 lead.

Weatherford tied the game up with a home run in the fifth but Blinn battled right back with a home run of his its own. Rojas nailed a home run to center to score King and Cullen Jozwiak to reclaim the lead for Blinn at 5-2 in the bottom of the fifth.

Rojas wasn’t done as he ripped a double to left to score Jozwiak again for a 6-2 lead in the bottom of the seventh. Weatherford plated a pair of runs in the eighth but that would be the final time as Blinn hung on to win by two runs.

Blinn will open up conference play on Feb. 19 with a double header at Galveston College at 12 p.m.

Blinn has competed in intercollegiate athletics since 1903 and captured 30 NJCAA national championships since 1987. For more information, visit www.buccaneersports.com.
