The Bluebonnet Master Gardeners are pleased to present a children’s garden program for Austin County beginning on Monday, June 27 thru Friday, July 1, 2016, at the Sealy Church of Christ, 201 6th Street, Sealy, Texas.  Classes start at 8 AM each morning and finish at Noon each day.

Shop Austin County 300 x 600 Second TryOnly children of the ages 10, 11, and 12 can be registered and a limit of 20 children will be accepted on a first come basis. The registration fee is $20 per child.  Applications are available at the Austin County AgriLife Extension Office located on the square in Bellville, Texas.  Early registration to insure your child will be accepted can be completed by mailing an application to Donna Cain, 10855 Wildlife Circle, Carmine TX 78932.  If there are any questions please email Donna at [email protected].

The Kid’s Summer Garden Program will include courses on Worm Composting, Soil and Gardening, Good Bug/Bad Bug, Nutrition and Kitchen Management, and Food Preservation.  At the end of the week each child will receive a participation certificate and get to take home the items they have created during the week. 

Finally the goals are to ensure healthy lives and promote wellbeing for our youth, to help foster civic and individual responsibility through academic plant science training and applied garden skills, and to learn that we depend on plants as the original sources of most food, clothing, medicine, and the air we breathe and the water we drink.
