The Blinn College men’s and women’s golf teams competed at the Hal Sutton Invitational this week, ending play Tuesday following a pair of strong showings at the two-day, two-round tournament in Bossier City, La.
The Blinn men’s Blue team, ranked 14th by the National Collegiate Golf Ranking System, finished third in the eight-team competition. Tyler Junior College claimed the team crown.
Blinn was led by a pair of 11th-place finishes from sophomore ย and freshmanย Cody Peters. The two golfers finished 8-over par.
The Bucs’ White team also competed and placed eight.
A total of 48 golfers competed.
On the women’s side, the seventh-ranked Buccaneers earned a runner-up finish in the four-team race. Tyler placed first.
Freshmanย Daniah Syedย paced Blinn with a third-place finish after she carded a 9-over par.ย
Among the 33 women’s golfers, Syed’s sister and fellow freshmanย Abiha Syedย finished 14-over for fifth place, and freshmanย Abigail O’Brienย shot 22-over for a three-way tie for seventh.
Up next, the Buccaneer women will play at the two-day Cardinal Challenge hosted by NCAA Division I program Lamar University on Monday, March 31, in Beaumont, Texas. The Blinn men and women will then host the two-day Blinn Invitational beginning Monday, April 7, at the Brenham Country Club in Brenham, Texas.
Blinn has competed in intercollegiate athletics since 1903 and captured 50 national championships since 1987.
