The Blinn College men’s golf team finished its season Tuesday with a third consecutive Region XIV Championship during the NJCAA Southwest District Championship at the Bearkat Course on the campus of Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, Texas.

The Buccaneers’ region title was the accumulation of two tournaments and 108 holes of play, starting with the NJCAA Southwest Championship on April 13-14, and this week’s two-day tournament in Huntsville.

Blinn outplayed Tyler Junior College by 13 strokes for the title.

Though the Buccaneers captured the region crown, they failed to finish among the top two teams in the Southwest District and will not appear in the NJCAA Division I Men’s Golf Championship. The Buccaneers placed ninth as a team Tuesday.

“I was really proud of our guys today for a three-peat as regional champions,” Blinn head coach David Johnson said. “All six of our guys contributed to our success on the course for 108 holes. Most of these players have been two-year starters for us, and they will be hard to replace.”

Sophomore Cameron Hubbard finished second in the region after finishing 6-over par between the two tournaments. Fellow sophomores Tyler Thomas and Carson Wray placed third and fifth, respectively, in the region.

Though the men’s season has come to a close, the Buccaneers’ women’s golf team is awaiting news on a potential berth in the NJCAA Division I Men’s Golf Championship. In the event the Buccaneers do not qualify, sophomore Holly Paterson and freshman Natalie Peebles could punch their individual tickets to the national tournament.

Blinn has competed in intercollegiate athletics since 1903 and captured 43 NJCAA national championships since 1987.
