The Blinn College women’s basketball team opened the new year with a 69–65 overtime victory over Temple College on Saturday at the Kruse Center.

The come-from-behind win improved the Buccaneers to 10-6 and marked their second victory over the Leopards this season. Blinn also defeated Temple 72–47 on the road Dec. 13.

Temple led 48–47 after three quarters and forced overtime by erasing a five-point deficit in the final 41 seconds of regulation to tie the game at 63.

Blinn scored six points in overtime, four from the free-throw line. After Temple took a brief 65–64 lead, sophomore guard Taylor Spencer made two free throws and sophomore forward Cynthia LeCompte added one to put the Buccaneers ahead. Sophomore guard Mariah Houston’s layup with 30 seconds remaining sealed the win.

The teams were evenly matched throughout the first half. Temple led 14–10 after the first quarter and extended the advantage to 19–11 early in the second. Blinn answered with an 18–9 run over the final 6:40 of the half. A layup by Spencer and a 3-pointer by Houston jump-started the surge, which ended with freshman forward Amyah Weathersby scoring inside to give Blinn a 29–28 halftime lead.

Spencer finished with a team-high 18 points. Freshman Kamaria “Juice” Ford added 13 points, LeCompte scored 12, and Houston and Weathersby had 10 each.
