Blinn College has hired a familiar face as its head football coach, naming Ryan Mahon to the position after he served as the interim coach during the 2016 season.

“All those years as an assistant coach helped prepare me, but it is a little bit different when you put on those head coaching shoes and ultimately it all comes down to you,” Mahon said.

This is the first head coaching job for Mahon, who started his career as a running backs and receivers coach at Feather River (Calif.) College in 2003.

Mahon arrived at Blinn in March as an offensive coordinator after occupying the same position at Hutchinson (Kan.) Community College. He had previous experience coaching in the Southwest Junior College Football Conference after spending 10 years as an assistant coach at Tyler Junior College.

“We are excited to have Ryan Mahon as head football coach and looking forward to his continued leadership of Blinn’s football program,” said Scott Schumacher, athletic director.

Said Mahon, “I really want to thank Coach Schumacher, District President/CEO Dr. Mary Hensley, Senior Vice President for Student Services Dr. Dennis Crowson, and the Board of Trustees for this opportunity.”

Blinn has competed in intercollegiate athletics since 1903 and captured 34 NJCAA national championships since 1987. For more information, visit www.buccaneersports.com.
