No. 10 Blinn College men’s soccer came up just short on the road Sunday, falling to National Park College 1-0 in a non-region matchup in Hot Springs, Ark.
The loss dropped the Buccaneers to 1-1 on the season.
National Park Breaks Scoreless Tie Late
Neither team was able to find the net during the opening half, sending the match into halftime scoreless.
The defensive battle continued deep into the second half before National Park finally broke through in the 73rd minute for what proved to be the game-winning goal.
Blinn generated opportunities throughout the match, finishing with 14 shots and putting six on goal, but the Buccaneers were unable to find the equalizer.
Bristol Makes Four Saves for Blinn
Sophomore goalkeeper Bristol turned away four National Park shots in the loss.
The defeat was the first of Bristol’s collegiate career, moving his career record to 6-1-0. He is 1-1 this season.
Despite controlling portions of the attack and creating scoring chances, the Buccaneers were unable to capitalize before National Park’s late goal decided the match.
Buccaneers Open Region 14 Play at Tyler
Blinn will now turn its attention to Region 14 competition and a matchup against another nationally ranked opponent.
The Buccaneers will visit No. 5 Tyler Junior College at 2 p.m. Friday, Aug. 28, in Tyler, Texas.
Blinn has competed in intercollegiate athletics since 1903 and has captured 53 national championships since 1987.
