The Blinn College football team’s new play-caller will be a familiar face.

Offensive line coach Chuck Parsons has been promoted from offensive line coach to offensive coordinator, head coach Keith Thomas has announced. Jimmy Klinger was the previous offensive coordinator as he resigned following the 2014 season to spend more time with family.

Parsons takes over the play-calling duties for an offense that averaged 652.6 yards per game a season ago. Parsons will try to mix in a little more of running game as Blinn passed for 533 yards per game and only 119.6 yards per game rushing, he said.

Parsons has over 17 years of collegiate coaching experience and was head coach at North Dakota State College of Science.

“I just want to thank coach Keith Thomas for the opportunity,” Parsons said. “I know we have a lot of good players returning and coming in.”

Thomas wanted to keep the same offense in place, so hiring a coach that was on the staff last year was a big boost to the offense.

“Chuck is a very intelligent coach, and coaching the offensive line helps a coach really understand the game,” Thomas said.

Blinn football will open its season against ASA-Miami on Aug. 22 at Cub Stadium in Brenham.

Blinn has competed in intercollegiate athletics since 1903 and captured 32 NJCAA national championships since 1987. For more information, visit: www.buccaneersports.com.
