The Buccaneers finished 98-over par to place fourth in the seven-team competition, while freshman Holly Paterson punched her ticket to the NJCAA Division I Women’s Golf Championship.

“On Monday the ladies struggled a bit,” Blinn assistant coach Katie Johnston said. “The conditions weren’t great, and it was raining until they finished. They weren’t happy with their first-round scores, so they wanted to improve in round two and they did. They ended up shooting 330 for the last round and that’s their second best finish this season.

“Holly qualified for nationals as a freshman, and (head coach) David Johnson and I are extremely proud of her. We are hoping the team gets a bid to go to Nationals in May.”

Paterson finished seventh overall out of 38 golfers with a 15-over performance and will now compete in the national competition on May 9-12 at Mayfair Country Club in Sanford, Fla.

“I’m super excited. It’s going to be a great experience to go to nationals and I’m really happy about it,” Paterson said. “I’ve been playing really well recently, and I think having back-to-back tournaments has really been helping me stay consistent. I’m finishing strong in my freshman year and I’m really proud of that.”

Blinn has competed in intercollegiate athletics since 1903 and captured 42 NJCAA national championships since 1987.
