Blinn College women’s soccer dropped its season opener to Dallas College Brookhaven in a thrilling 3-2 decision Friday in Farmers Branch, Texas.

Blinn Sophomore defender Emma Orozco and freshman midfielder Eleanor Sargeant scored for the Bucs, who pushed the NJCAA Division III defending national champions to the brink.

“Defeat is the secret ingredient to success,” Blinn second-year head coach Alexandria Jackson said. “We lost to the defending national champions, and it was a good loss in that we stood toe-to-toe with them until the very end. We have a lot to work on and we’ll look to improve on Sunday.”

Sophomore defender Avery Stansbury assisted on Orozco’s goal, while Sargeant scored on a free kick.

The Bucs return to Brenham, Texas, for their first home tilt of the season when they host Ronin Soccer Club at 11 a.m. on Sunday, Aug. 20, at Rankin Field inside Hohlt Park.

Blinn has competed in intercollegiate athletics since 1903 and captured 44 NJCAA national championships since 1987.
