Tryouts will take place during two sessions between Aug. 25-26 and Aug. 29-31. Tryouts will be held in person at the Blinn College-Brenham Campus and Texas A&M-RELLIS esports arenas. Tryouts also may be attended online.

Tryouts are open to all students who are enrolled in 12 or more credit hours and in good academic standing.

Students can try out for the following games during these dates and times:

  • 6-8 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 25 – Overwatch
  • 6-8 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 26 – Valorant
  • 6-8 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 29 – Rocket League
  • 6-8 p.n. on Tuesday, Aug. 30 – League of Legends
  • 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 31 – Supplemental date in which students can try out for all offered games

Students also may try out for a Super Smash Bros. Ultimate team. The tryout will consist of a round-robin tournament held Aug. 27-29. Students interested in trying out for the Super Smash Bros. team will compete against each other in an opening round robin. Following the first round, students will be seeded based on performance and will progress to a double-elimination playoff to determine a starting roster, as well as substitutes and reserves.

Blinn esports also will offer Call of Duty and Apex Legends club teams this semester, which are open to any students enrolled at Blinn.

Blinn is coming off an historic spring season in which both its Valorant and Overwatch teams qualified for the NJCAA Esports playoffs. Blinn’s Valorant squad finished its regular season with an 8-0 record. The Buccaneers’ Overwatch team finished 9-2 overall and placed second in the NJCAA Esports Overwatch National Championship match.

The Overwatch team also was selected by the NJCAA as its junior college Overwatch representative for the 2022 Collegiate Esports Commissioner’s Cup (CECC) at the Gateway Center Arena in Atlanta, Ga. Blinn earned one victory at the CECC to cap its successful season. 

Blinn has competed in intercollegiate athletics since 1903 and captured 42 NJCAA national championships since 1987.
