Blinn College District art students are displaying their latest works as part of a virtual art show raising money for student scholarships.

The 2019-2020 Blinn College Virtual Art Show is available at www.blinn.edu/virtual-art-show and features pieces from students in the Arts, Architecture, and Art and Visual Communication programs. The artwork displayed reflects various mediums and concentrations, including architectural graphics, architectural modeling, ceramics, digital arts, drawing, graphic design, metals, and painting.

“This show makes our students’ work accessible to the public,” said Craig Jeffrey, Assistant Dean of the Division of Visual/Performing Arts and Kinesiology. “Unprecedented circumstances restricted us from holding our annual in-person exhibit. However, we still wanted to find a way to celebrate the innovative and creative pieces our students have dedicated so much time and passion toward creating.”

The virtual show takes the place of the annual Visual Arts Scholarship Fundraiser and Art Exhibit that usually occurs on the Blinn-Bryan Campus in May. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, this year’s in-person exhibit was moved online. Although this year’s situation was unique, the department anticipates continuing the online show format as a complement to the annual in-person exhibit.

To purchase a piece from the show or offer a Blinn student an internship, contact the Department of Visual Arts at [email protected] or 979-209-7305.

Blinn’s Department of Visual Arts provides students a deeper understanding of the creative process through lecture- and studio-based classes. Depending on the program, courses include art history, art appreciation, and architectural history classes that examine the creative form through the ages, and Blinn’s hands-on courses allow students to learn the fundamentals, elements, and principles of creating art in both traditional and digital mediums.
