Blinn College’s Overwatch esports team cruised past St. Andrews University in a Thursday night matchup.
Blinn is now 7-1 on the season and in second place in its group.
“We won all three maps without giving up a single point,” head coach Aaron Kapiko said.
Members of Blinn’s Overwatch team are Caleb Sheffield (Austin), Ayden Rodriguez (College Station), Andrew Magourik (Bryan), Carter Haber (Aledo, Texas), Juan Cantu (Cedar Hill, Texas), and Jacob Barnes (Bryan).
In Overwatch, teams of six players work together to make their way across a video battlefield to destroy an opponent’s main structure.
Blinn will take on Wayland Baptist University on Monday.
Blinn’s Super Smash Bros. Ultimate team will play Texas A&M University-San Antonio tonight.
Blinn started its esports program this fall. It is one of the few community colleges in the region which offers esports scholarships.
