The Blinn College District is encouraging eligible Applied Sciences majors taking Summer 2020 courses to apply for funds made available through the Carl D. Perkins Basic Grant.

The Perkins Grant is a federally funded program that provides community colleges with resources to enhance and develop programs that serve faculty, staff and students in career and technical education departments. Students enrolled in Blinn’s Applied Business, Art and Visual Communication, Associate Degree Nursing, Biotechnology Laboratory Sciences, Child Development, Criminal Justice, Dental Hygiene, Emergency Medical Services, Fire Science, Health Information Technology, Information Technology, Legal Assistant, Office Administration, Physical Therapist Assistant, Radiologic Technology, Real Estate, Surgical Technology, Veterinary Technology, Vocational Nursing, and Welding Technology programs may be eligible.

Perkins funds can be applied toward textbooks. The online application at www.blinn.edu/perkins-grant/Perkins-Assistance-Application.html opened at 9 a.m. today and closes at 9 a.m. Tuesday, April 14. Students must complete the Perkins assistance application form during the application dates to be eligible for consideration.

Registration for Blinn’s May Minimester, Summer, and Fall terms is open now to current students, and new students can register beginning at 9 a.m. Wednesday, April 8. Registration for the May Minimester is available through Thursday, May 14, and classes run Friday, May 15, through Monday, June 1.

Students can enroll in the Summer I semester through Tuesday, June 2, and classes will run Wednesday, June 3, through Wednesday, July 1. Registration for the Summer II semester is available through Sunday, July 5, and classes will run Monday, July 6, through Monday, Aug. 3.

Fall semester registration is open through Sunday, Aug. 23, and classes begin Monday, Aug. 24.

Blinn has announced that all May Minimester and Summer courses will be offered online. Blinn offers a variety of resources for students taking online courses at www.blinn.edu/online, including an orientation course, tips for taking an online course, tutorials, frequently asked questions, and a live chat.

Prospective students can apply to Blinn via the ApplyTexas.org application. Once admitted, they can register for classes at https://my.blinn.edu. Blinn recommends that all students speak to an academic advisor prior to registering for classes.
