Blinn Associate Degree Nursing Program Ranks Among the Best in the Southwest
The Blinn College District Associate Degree Nursing (ADN) Program has been ranked among the best in the Southwest by NursingProcess.org.
Blinn ranked No. 2 among 268 schools offering nursing programs in the region. NursingProcess.org considered National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX-RN) pass rates, academic quality, the nursing school’s reputation, and affordability in compiling its rankings.
All 37 of Blinn’s Fall 2019 ADN graduates passed the NCLEX-RN on the first attempt, becoming the eighth cohort in Blinn history to post a 100% pass rate. The national average in 2019 was 88.07%.
“This recognition is a testament to the dedication of our faculty and students,” said Karla Ross, ADN Program Director. “The commitment and sacrifice our students make is on display now more than ever, and our program’s consistent top rankings are reflective of the passion and hard work that goes into fostering these essential caregivers.”
Blinn’s two-year ADN program is based at the RELLIS Academic Alliance Complex at the RELLIS Campus in Bryan, where students gain hands-on skills utilizing the facility’s 16,000-square-foot simulation laboratories.
Nursing students spend at least two days a week in clinical rotations, in addition to lab, simulation, and lecture time. Most students dedicate 15 to 24 hours each week to scheduled program activities and at least 30 hours per week on study and preparation.
“We are amazed at the caliber of nursing students from Blinn College,” said Catarina VanOrman, Intensive Care Unit Manager at the Baylor Scott & White Medical Center-College Station. “We continually see students who are engaged and enthusiastic and also possess a strong knowledge base. The instructors are invested not only in teaching their students, but in fostering positive relationships with our staff, allowing us to collaboratively improve the clinical experience at Baylor Scott & White.”
Students who complete Blinn’s ADN Program and pass the NCLEX-RN have a job placement rate between 97 and 100% and are qualified for a wide array of nursing positions, including pediatric, geriatric, hospice, school, and clinical nursing. New graduates can expect to earn an average of $53,000 per year.
