BRENHAM, Texas — On Thursday night at Leroy Dreyer Field, Blinn College baseball came up short against visiting No. 5 San Jacinto College-North, dropping the series opener by a 3-1 final.
With the loss, Blinn’s overall record drops to 13-8 and 8-2 in Region XIV play.
Jacob Millender was solid on the mound after giving the Buccaneers a solid start and only surrendering one run on three hits, while striking out two in six innings. Andrew Morgan, Eli Reichmann and Bryce Miller came out of the bullpen strong to keep Blinn in the game. Morgan threw 1 2/3 innings and only surrendered two runs on three hits, while striking out four, and Reichmann and Miller didn’t surrender a hit in the final 1 2/3 innings of work.
Alec Sanchez led the Blinn offense after going 2-for-4 and driving in and scoring the only run for the Buccaneers. Jacob Miller also managed a hit in the game.
After five scoreless innings, San Jacinto got on the board first with one run in the sixth inning.
In the eighth inning, San Jacinto tacked on two more runs to extend its lead to 3-0.
Blinn answered in the bottom of the eighth inning after Sanchez hit a solo home run for the Buccaneers to cut the deficit to 3-1.
Blinn and San Jacinto will continue the conference series on Saturday, March 17 in a doubleheader starting at 3 p.m. in San Jacinto.
