On Wednesday, March 19, 2025, the Austin County Regional Special Response Team executed an arrest and search warrant at a residence on the 16500 block of Sycamore Road in Cat Spring. Authorities arrested 55-year-old Laura Elie, also known as Laura Bursell, on an active warrant for the offense of murder. The operation was a coordinated effort involving the Austin County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division, the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) Texas Rangers, and the DPS Dive Team. Following her arrest, Elie was transported and booked into the Austin County Jail without incident. She is currently being held without bond as the investigation continues.
