The Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service of Austin County is set to host the Multi-County Urban & Homeowner Soil Testing Campaign in collaboration with Colorado, Fayette, and Washington Counties. Running from March 31st to April 11th, this initiative provides homeowners and gardeners an opportunity to test their soil for optimal plant growth at a discounted rate.

This campaign, made possible with the support of the Bluebonnet Master Gardeners, aims to assist residents in assessing soil conditions for growing flowers, gardens, turfgrasses, trees, vineyards, and woody ornamentals. The testing will be conducted in cooperation with the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Soil, Water, and Forage Testing Lab in College Station.

Residents interested in participating can pick up information packets, collection bags, and necessary forms from designated locations across Austin County. These materials will be available starting at the end of March. To qualify for the campaign’s discounted pricing, soil samples must be submitted along with the completed forms and payment before the April 11th deadline. Samples should be returned to the designated drop-off locations, after which Extension office staff will transport them to the testing lab for analysis.

Once analyzed, the soil test results will be returned to the Extension office and distributed to participants in the weeks following the campaign’s conclusion. For additional information or questions, residents can contact Stacie Villarreal, Ag & Natural Resources Agent, at 979-865-2072.
