The Buccaneers improved to 4-0-1 on the season (1-0 in Region XIV), setting a program record for wins to start a season without a loss.
After falling behind 1-0 in the first half, Blinn tied the match later in the half on a corner kick from sophomore midfielder Felix Mesquita. The Following a lengthy weather delay in the second half, the Buccaneers took the lead for good when Mesquita fed sophomore defender William Spellman for a goal. Mesquita then picked up his second assist of the match when he assisted freshman forward Toby Lansdowne for a score. Freshman defender Joe Loughnane closed out the scoring when he netted a feed from sophomore forward Kamille Kum.
“We’re probably the youngest team in Region XIV and at times it shows,
Blinn head coach Michael McBride said. “We were outworked in the first half and made too many errors, which was disappointing. However, our work rate and decision making improved as the game went on. Now we have to get back to work to prepare for another tough opponent on Wednesday.”
The Buccaneers take on region foe Northeast Texas Community College at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 7, at Rankin Field. Prior to the men’s match, the Blinn women’s soccer team will take on Northeast Texas at 5 p.m.
