Michael Lopez, Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service program specialist, Bryan-College Station, said the program invites teams of up to eight members to work together to reach the 832-mile goal representing the distance between the furthermost points of the state,

“Getting involved in a team-based or community-wide fitness initiative such as the Walk Across Texas! challenge is a good way to develop the habit of getting regular physical activity,“ Lopez said.

Get a team, get active

“Walk Across Texas! is a fun, free and flexible way for our community to get active,” said Flora Williams, AgriLife Extension agent, Brazos County. “We want individuals, businesses, service organizations and other groups throughout the community to gather friends, family, colleagues and coworkers together to create a team for this challenge.”

Williams said teams report their miles either weekly or daily to gauge progress.

All teams should register online and select Feb. 12 as the start date. There will be a virtual and in-person kick-off event and captain’s meeting starting at 10 a.m. on Feb. 12.

The online event will include the opening ceremony, door prizes, virtual workouts and a team captains’ meeting via Facebook Live. A Facebook account is not necessary to view and attend the event.

The in-person event will be held in the parking lot of the AgriLife Extension office for Brazos County, 4153 County Park Court, Bryan, with a 1-mile walk on the Park Hudson Walking Trail. There also will be an indoor workout option.

The challenge will offer free virtual and in-person weekly instructor-led workouts. Dates and activities will be:
