The Buccaneers jumped to 7-0 with their second victory over the Leopards this season. Blinn defeated Temple 81-66 on Nov. 11 at the Kruse Center in Brenham. The Leopards are now 4-2 overall.
“This was a good road victory over an extremely athletic Temple team,” Buccaneers head coach Jeff Jenkins said. “I would say the key to the victory tonight was that we got into a lot of foul trouble, but with our bench we can throw 11 or 12 players at them. We don’t miss a beat when we play our subs.”
Driving home Jenkin’s point was the Buccaneer stat sheet, which featured three players who scored in double figures, and four more who scored at least six.
Freshman guard Makayla Patterson led Blinn with 19 points, fellow freshman Hannah Humphrey tallied 18, and first-year forward Amillion Flower tallied 10. The Buccaneers also got nine points apiece from freshmen Telisha Brown and Tiffany Tullis, seven points from freshman Allana Thompson, and six from freshman Jakoria Long.
“Offensively, we were pretty good,” added Jenkins. “It helps to shoot the ball well and we shot the ball well tonight.”
Blinn continues its season with a home tilt against Ranger College at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Kruse Center. The Buccaneers opened their season with a 65-59 road win over Ranger on Nov. 1. Saturday’s game will be followed by a 4 p.m. clash between the Blinn men’s basketball team and McLennan Community College.
Blinn has competed in intercollegiate athletics since 1903 and captured 42 NJCAA national championships since 1987.
