Friday the Faith Academy Knights traveled to Conroe to play the Covenant Cougars.ย ย In a hard fought game the Knights lost 64-25.
Troy Herring (Bellville) lead the Knights down the field on their first possession.ย The drive was capped off with Herring throwing a 6 yard TD to Grayson Shackelford (Bellville).ย The 2 point kick attempt was no good.ย At the end of the 1st quarter, the Knights were down 8-6.ย
The Knights scored again in the 2nd quarter when Herring connected with Jake Ewing (Hempstead) on a 35 yard TD pass.ย The extra point attempt was successful when Herring found Tyler Fontenot (Bellville) in the back of the end zone.ย At the half the score was 30-13 in favor of the Cougars.ย The Knights knew they were in for a battle.ย
In the second half, Cameron Crawford (Bellville) completed an 11 yard TD pass to Herring.ย The PAT was unsuccessful.ย Later, Crawford hooked up with Fontenot on a 20 yard TD reception.ย Herring completed the extra point to Fontenot.ย
Offensively the Knights were led by Troy Herring who had 15 rushes for 85 yards, 6 of 11 passing for 60 yards and 2 TD.ย Cameron Crawford was 6 of 12 passing for 67 yards and 2 TD.ย The Knights top receivers were Jake Ewing with 4 receptions for 54 yards and 1 TD and Tyler Fontenot with 4 receptions for 29 yards and 1 TD.ย
When the Cougars were threatening to apply the mercy rule, the Knight defense rose up and held strong.ย The defense was led by Herring with 16 tackles and a fumble recovery.ย Fontenot and Ewing also stepped up with 8 and 7 tackles, respectively.ย
The Knights next game will be at home on October 16.ย They will host Conroe Lifestyles at 7:00 pm for a district match up.ย It will be Homecoming for Faith Academy.
