CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) National Office announced that Blinn College sports information specialist Tara Dreyer has been named the 2020-2021 NJCAA Sports Information Director of the Year.

The NJCAA Sports Information Director of the Year Award is awarded to the sports information director who best exemplifies the overall purpose of promoting and leading their institution, athletic department, and student-athletes through sports information.

“I am extremely honored to be recognized as the NJCAA Sports Information Director of the Year,” Dreyer said. “It is a blessing to work at Blinn College alongside so many accomplished leaders, coaches, and student-athletes and promote the athletic department and athletic teams. Getting to continue my grandfather’s legacy and carry on my family’s love and passion for the Buccaneers and junior college athletics through this position has been a dream come true.”

In her fourth year as Sports Information Specialist at Blinn, Dreyer is responsible for providing extensive coverage of the Buccaneers’ 12 athletic programs on BuccaneerSports.com and the Blinn College Athletics social media channels.  In addition to this coverage, Dreyer serves as the primary photographer for each of Blinn’s athletic programs while coordinating closely with a videographer at home events and a graphic designer to maintain the Buccaneers’ brand.

In addition, Dreyer creates content for and coordinates the production of the athletic department’s media and recruiting guides. She coproduced the 2019-20 Winter/Spring Athletics Recruiting Guide that received the 2020 Collegiate Advertising Gold Award. She serves as a member of the NJCAA Division I Men’s Basketball poll committee as a representative of the Mid-South District.

Prior to Blinn, Dreyer worked in the news industry for six years as a sports editor for the Elgin Courier, a beat writer for the Brenham-Banner Press where she covered Blinn College news and athletics, and a freelance sportswriter.

Dreyer has her bachelor’s degree in English and is currently pursuing a master’s degree in sport management from The University of Texas at Austin.

She is the granddaughter of Leroy Dreyer, former Blinn College athletic director and longtime baseball coach. Coach Dreyer spent 36 years at the College, serving 27 seasons as the head baseball coach where he compiled a 653-249 (.724) record, coached five teams to the NJCAA World Series and was a 12-time Texas Junior College Coach of the Year. He was inducted into the American Baseball Coaches Association Hall of Fame, NJCAA Baseball Coaches Hall of Fame, the NJCAA Football Hall of Fame and the Blinn College Hall of Honor. The Blinn College baseball field is named after him.
