BRENHAM, Texas — Blinn College men’s basketball had to shake off a little rust from the holiday break, but came back to defeat the Houston Gladiators, 71-69, Tuesday night in the Kruse Center.
Sophomore Tony Lewis led the Blinn offense with 16 points, while sophomore Markques Houston followed with 11 points, and sophomores Curtlon Wesley and Antione Lister followed with nine points each.
“We had to shake off the rust from the Christmas break, but we were lucky enough to hit a shot to win the game,” said Scott Schumacher, Blinn head coach.
The Buccaneers trailed 36-29 at the half, before rallying in the second half for the win.
Trailing 69-68 in the final seconds of the game, Blinn’s sophomore Gianni Ford passed off the ball to Houston in the corner for him to shoot a three-pointer to put Blinn ahead 71-69 for the victory.
With the win, Blinn improves to 9-3 overall and stays 1-2 in Region XIV play.
Blinn will resume conference play on Friday, Jan. 5 against Kilgore College at 7 p.m. in the Kruse Center.
