Bellville—Two home wins and a road victory wrapped up the week for the Faith Academy Lady Knights Volleyball Team. The three-game win streak upped the squad’s record to 5-3-3 overall and 2-0 in TAAPS District 9-1A District action.

Led by tough serving and an improved passing and defensive game, FA took matches against non-district opponent Aggieland Home School and district foes Kingwood Covenant Preparatory and Cypress Covenant School.

The Lady Knights took down Aggieland 25-18, 25-16 and 27-25 to start last week after Hurricane Harvey cancelled the Conroe Covenant tournament and a non-district match.

“We had the girls come in for one morning practice and then it was game time that same night,” first-year head coach Joshua McLain said. “We had a tournament and a match cancelled due to the weather. It was definitely unfortunate but the girls really came back in the gym in that one practice focused and ready to go.”

Aggieland had game point in the final frame but FA was able to gain control to come back and take the close 27-25 set to end the match.

“Our opponent did some things well but we made too many errors on our side. It was good to see the team find a way to pull it out,” McLain said.

Against two district opponents, the Lady Knights shook off an early punch from both Kingwood Covenant (25-11, 25-16, 25-7) and Cypress Covenant (25-7, 25-5, 25-11) but then kicked it into another gear to start district play, 2-0.

“I told the girls that this program’s tradition speaks volumes to how every team will want to come at us with their best shot. The team handled the other teams’ shot very well with service pressure and improved passing during these matches,” he said.

“Our offense took baby steps and the first pass improved but there is still so much more potential to unlock from this young team.”

The Lady Knights are back in action this week as they host Conroe Lifestyle Christian at 6 p.m., September 12 before traveling to compete in the Alvin Living Stones Tournament, September 15 and 16. FA will start pool play at 2:50 p.m., Friday against Covenant Christian.
