Decades of service and a new year of leadership were celebrated as members of the Austin County Extension Education Association gathered for their 2026 Awards Banquet and Officer Installation Ceremony at St. John Lutheran Church in Cat Spring.
Hosted by the West EEA Club, the banquet featured a “Bluebonnets Under the Moonlight” theme and gave members an opportunity to recognize the people who have devoted years to the organization while looking ahead to another year of service and community involvement.
More Than 125 Years of Service Recognized
Seven members were honored for service ranging from one year to four decades, representing more than 125 years of combined involvement in Extension Education Association programs.
Leading the group was Lois Schubert, who was recognized for 40 years of service. Bonnie Schulz marked 35 years, Marian Balke was honored for 25 years and Judy Schulz was recognized for 20 years.
Rita Jacobs received recognition for five years of service, while Tracy Semmler and Veronica Ashorn were each honored for their first year with the organization.
The awards provided a chance to recognize the dedication of longtime members while also celebrating those who are beginning their involvement with the organization.
New Officers Installed for 2026–2027
The banquet also marked the beginning of a new leadership year as officers were officially installed for the 2026–2027 term.
Knellen Quinteros will serve as president, with Jessie Kokemor as vice president. Judy Schulz will serve as recording secretary as well as reporter/historian, while Shirley Beum will serve as treasurer. Gaye Farr was installed as corresponding secretary and Joan Buenger as parliamentarian.
Members will also take on responsibilities in several areas of the organization during the coming year. Jessie Kokemor and Pat Allee will oversee programs, while Joan Buenger, Malinda Schramm, Doris Glenewinkel and Danita Schovajsa will serve on the County Fair committee.
Danita Schovajsa and Jessie Kokemor will lead 4-H efforts, while Shirley Beum and Doris Glenewinkel will oversee finance. Barney Zimmerman and Gaye Farr will lead cultural arts, and Judy Schulz and Danita Schovajsa will oversee community service.
Knellen Quinteros, Doris Glenewinkel, Jessie Kokemor and Mary Smentek will work on expansion efforts, while Jo Ann Reichle and Danita Schovajsa will oversee care and concern.
The afternoon combined recognition of longtime service with fellowship and the beginning of another year for Austin County Extension Education Association. With its new officers and committee leaders in place, the organization heads into 2026–2027 ready for another year of service, growth and involvement in the Austin County community.
