The Blinn College men’s basketball team fell to Region 14 foe Lamar State College-Port Arthur 66-65 on Wednesday at the Kruse Center in Brenham, Texas.
The Buccaneers dropped to 17-9 overall and 11-7 in region play.
For the second time in as many games, Blinn was the victim of a one-point defeat brought upon by last-second free throws.
After the Seahawks earned a trip to the free throw line with 2.4 seconds remaining, they hit both charity buckets to pull ahead. The Bucs were unable to get a shot off on the other end.
Blinn fell to region leader and 12th-ranked Kilgore College 63-62 under identical circumstances on Feb. 14 in Kilgore, Texas.
“It’s tough to see games end that way,” Bucs head coach ย said. “Our guys competed extremely hard tonight and we had our opportunities to take control of the game, we just didn’t take care of business on our end. Give credit to Port Arthur because they battled the entire game and found a way to win the game.”
Freshman guard/forwardย Ian Sedahย led the Bucs with 20 points. Freshman guardย Connor Sprattleyย and freshman forwardย Rollings Kamandaย had 10 apiece. Freshman guardย Desmeon Jonesย added nine points, seven assists, and four steals.
Blinn’s season continues with a region road trip to Paris Junior College at 4 p.m. on Saturday in Paris, Texas.
Blinn has competed in intercollegiate athletics since 1903 andย capturedย 53ย national championships since 1987.
