The 12th-ranked Blinn College volleyball team concluded its final regular-season tournament with a pair of sweeps on the last day of the Blinn Invitational on Saturday at the Kruse Center in Brenham, Texas.
The Bucs picked up victories over Range College and Hill College to conclude the Invitational with a 4-0 mark.
“I’m really proud of the girls for their toughness and how they went through a stretch of a lot of games and went undefeated,” Blinn head coach Terry Gamble said. “It speaks volumes to their character and their desire to be successful.”
The Bucs improved to 26-2 overall and pushed their winning streak to 19 matches.
Blinn’s opening match Saturday resulted in a 25-15, 25-16, 25-22 victory over Ranger.
Freshman outside hitter and sophomore right-side hitter and NJCAA Division I kills leader Kellen Dorotik paced the Bucs’ offense with 14 and 12 kills, respectively. Freshman outside hitter Greta Rakow chipped in eight.
In the middle of the offense were freshman setters Bromli Watson and Leah Hoss, who dished out 20 and 15 assists. Loo and freshman libero/setter Avelyn Ireland knocked down a pair of aces apiece.
Defensively, freshman libero Sophie Ilagan continued her solid play with 17 digs, followed by 12 for sophomore libero Cierra Pesak. At the net, freshman middle blocker Jana Cetkovic had four block assists, and Loo, Dorotik, and freshman hitter/blocker Rosalinda Navarro each posted two.
Blinn wrapped up its day with a 25-16, 25-15, 25-21 over Hill.
Spearheading the offense once again were Loo (16 kills) and Dorotik (14).
Hoss had a team-high 18 set assists with Bromli chipping in 16. Rakow had a good match at the service line with four aces.
Ilagan remained the Bucs’ defensive stalwart with a team-best 15 digs, and Loo followed with 11. Hoss and Ireland tacked on seven apiece.
At the net, Cetkovic and Watson picked up four block assists, and Navarro, Dorotik, and freshman middle blocker Karolina Karabasz had two each.
The Bucs have 10 regular-season matches remaining, all against Region XIV opponents. Blinn will look to improve on its 4-0 region mark when it hosts Coastal Bend College at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 24, at the Kruse Center.
Blinn has competed in intercollegiate athletics since 1903 and captured 49 national championships since 1987.
