PARIS, Texas – Blinn College women’s basketball controlled the game for the majority of the time against Paris Junior College and picked up a commanding 68-39 victory Dec. 6 in Paris, Texas.

The Buccaneers put together quite possible their best performance of the season and were able to improve their conference record to 3-1 and overall at 8-4. Blinn came out fast and held a 35-18 lead at the half.

Too Much StuffKatelynn Johnson led Blinn with 20 points with the help of six 3-pointer with five of those coming in the first half. Shakera Barnes had 13 points, Ashley Cherry had 10 points and Chant Lewis finished with eight points in the victory.

“What makes Katelynn (Johnson) a great player is that she can shoot the ball deep,” said Blinn head coach Jeff Jenkins. “She can also shoot a 3-pointer off the dribble and she isn’t one of those players that has to have their feet set to shoot it.”

Every player got a chance to play in the solid team victory over Paris. Blinn was able to outscore Paris 33-21 in the second half.

“That was good defense for us,” Jenkins said. “I am proud of them because that is as good as we played so far.”

Bilnn will try to keep its winning ways going as they return home on Dec. 8 for a game against Southwestern Christian College at 5:30 p.m.

Blinn has competed in intercollegiate athletics since 1903 and captured 30 NJCAA national championships since 1987. For more information, visit www.buccaneersports.com.
