Episode 6: Mission Trip To South Carolina After Hurricane Helene With Jennifer Sutherland

In this episode of Hello Austin County, we welcome back Jennifer Sutherland of Redeemed & Restored Ministries to share about her recent mission trip to Asheville and Swannanoa, North Carolina, in the aftermath of Hurricane Helene. Jennifer paints a vivid picture of the devastation—families forced to live in tents during freezing winter weather, washed-out roads that cut off access to essentials, and an almost total absence of government relief. In place of official aid, nonprofit groups and volunteers stepped in to meet urgent needs.

Jennifer describes partnering with organizations like Cabins for Christ and Savage Freedom, who are clearing debris and building small cabins for displaced families. Her team brought practical supplies—including 41 coolers, kitchen essentials, and $1,500 in donations—and worked side-by-side with volunteers from across the country to restore hope.

We also hear about the resilience of the communities impacted, the selfless work of volunteers, and how specific needs like coolers and building materials are crucial for food safety and shelter in such harsh conditions. Jennifer stresses that even small contributions can have an outsized impact and urges the community to get involved through donations, materials, volunteer hours, or prayer.

✅ This episode sheds light on a disaster that has received little media coverage but continues to devastate families and local businesses. Jennifer’s call is clear: don’t forget these communities—step up, support, and be part of their recovery.

🙏 Together, we can turn compassion into action.
