JACKSONVILLE, Texas — The Blinn College men’s basketball team defeated Coastal Bend College, 75-66, in the first round of the Region XIV Tournament in the John Alexander Gymnasium on Tuesday night.
With the win, the Buccaneers are now 11-10 overall. Next, Blinn will compete against Kilgore College on Thursday, April 8, at 8 p.m. in the quarterfinals.
“I thought our guys played a tremendous game, and they came out in the first half with energy,” head coach Scott Schumacher said. “We moved the ball and had four guys that scored double figures. Hats off to the players for playing a very good basketball game that would make any college basketball coach proud.”
Davion Coleman recorded a team-high 18 points, while Austin Galuppo matched his season-high of 14 points. Calvin Carpenter scored 13 points, while Bonke Maring totaled 12 points and seven rebounds. Tyler Washington led the Buccaneers with 11 rebounds, while also putting up eight points. Judah Jordan led Blinn with five assists, while Washington had four.
The Buccaneers jumped out to a 12-0 lead with 15:29 on the clock in the first half. They extended their lead to 42-29 at the break. Blinn added another 33 points in the second half for the nine-point victory.
Blinn has competed in intercollegiate athletics since 1903 and captured 41 NJCAA national championships since 1987.
