Brazos High School’s FFA floriculture team recently placed 5th in a competition, earning them a spot as state qualifiers. This accomplishment highlights the team’s exceptional knowledge and skills in plant biology, horticulture, and design, and provides valuable learning experiences and opportunities for the students involved.
The Brazos Future Farmers of America (FFA) has secured a place in the state qualifiers by placing 2nd in the Vet Science category. Denise Hauer, Kady Schneider, Cheyenne Michalsky, and Maythe Mendez were outstanding in their individual performances, placing 4th, 5th, 7th, and 10th, respectively, in the competition.
Brazos High School junior Kasey Zientek has won the 3A 220lb division at the State Texas High School Powerlifting (THSPA & THSWPA) competition, setting personal records in all three lifts. His win is a testament to his dedication, hard work, and discipline, and it sets high expectations for him going into his senior year.
The Brazos FFA wool team has won the area competition with all four members placing in the top ten, showcasing their expertise in the art of wool evaluation. The team will now compete for the state title, where they will have the chance to prove their skills against other top teams from across Texas.
The Brazos Golf Team has secured a second-place finish at the District Golf Tournament, with both the Boys and Girls teams qualifying for the Regional Tournament. Senior Jemma Zahradnik also tied for second place in the individual category, a remarkable achievement for her and the team.
The Brazos Middle School Cougars and Cougarettes recently participated in the Van Vleck Track & Field Athletic Meet, displaying remarkable athletic abilities and teamwork. Despite tough competition, the teams managed to secure commendable rankings in each category, with the 8th-grade girls’ team placing 2nd and the 7th-grade boys’ team also finishing in 2nd place. The Cougars and Cougarettes demonstrated their potential and dedication towards their craft, leaving their coaches and supporters proud.
The Brazos High School band recently competed at the UIL Concert and Sight-Reading Contest at Palacios High School, where they achieved a remarkable feat by earning a 1st Division Rating from all three judges in both their stage performance and sight-reading. Their exceptional performance resulted in the band winning a Sweepstakes Award, the highest honor a band can achieve in the competition. This achievement is a testament to the band’s talent, dedication, and passion for music.
The Brazos FFA Dairy Judging team recently competed at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, where they placed 5th out of 95 teams. Colton Richardson also placed 9th and earned a Calf Scramble Certificate, allowing him to purchase a heifer with the intent of raising and showing it at Houston in 2024. The junior team also showed improvement, placing 48th.
