The Blinn College men’s basketball team endured a traffic-induced 8-hour road trip to Paris, Texas, on Saturday, and couldn’t quite gather its bearings in a subsequent 71-52 Region XIV loss to Paris Junior College.
Blinn dropped to 5-5 overall and 1-1 in region play.
The game, which was originally slated for a 4 p.m. start, was delayed almost one hour after the Buccaneers’ team bus found itself in a traffic jam. What is usually a 5-hour bus ride turned into a slog for Blinn that seemingly carried onto the court.
“After a long trip, we came out and Paris jumped on us,” Bucs head coach Scott Schumacher said. “They did a great job against us and played really well. We fought back and would cut into our deficit a little bit, and then Paris would reel off four or five straight points to stay in control. The tough trip aside, this was our first region road game and hopefully our guys understand now the level of play we’re going to be facing this season.”
Freshman guard paced Blinn with 14 points, followed by 10 for sophomore forward London Maiden. Sophomore forward Anthony Isaac had a team-high eight rebounds.
The Bucs resume play when they host region foe Lamar State College-Port Arthur at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 11, at the Kruse Center in Brenham, Texas.
Blinn has competed in intercollegiate athletics since 1903 and captured 49 NJCAA national championships since 1987.
