The Blinn College men’s soccer team struck early but couldn’t hold its lead en route to a Region XIV road loss to Coastal Bend College on Tuesday in Beeville, Texas.
The Buccaneers dropped to 6-4-2 overall and 3-3 in region play.
“Unfortunately, this was our worst performance of the season,” Blinn head coach Michael McBride said. “However, lessons can be learned whether you win, lose or draw. We’ll see what we’ve learned during our next game Friday.”
Blinn got on the board first in just the 6th minute of play when freshman midfielder Charlie Goldsmith stole the ball from his Cougar counterpart and fired a shot near the top of the box, through the hands of the goalkeeper, and into the net.
The Cougars responded with goals in the 30th, 35th minutes to take a 2-1 lead into halftime, and added some needed insurance in the 69th.
The Bucs cut into their deficit in the 70th minute when Mathew Williams booted a corner kick toward the goal, and the play was finished on a nifty move by freshman midfielder Joe Coyle.
Blinn out-shot the Cougars 16-3 and finished with a 6-1 edge in corner kicks.
Bucs freshman goalkeeper Connor Vela had six saves.
On Friday, Blinn will travel for a region clash at Texas Southmost College at 1 p.m. in Brownsville, Texas.
Blinn has competed in intercollegiate athletics since 1903 and captured 49 national championships since 1987.
