BRENHAM, Texas — The Blinn College football team fell to Cisco College, 49-14, in the Buccaneers’ home opener at Cub Stadium Saturday.
With the loss, the Buccaneers are now 0-2 overall and in conference play.
“We are a young team and we are trying to find our identity,” head coach Ryan Mahon said. “We have to learn from our mistakes, and just keep building and moving forward.
Cisco jumped out to a 14-0 lead in the first quarter after scoring on a four-yard pass with 10:13 on the clock and an eight-yard pass at the 3:07 mark.
Cisco extended its lead to 28-0 at halftime after scoring on a five-yard run with 7:32 showing and a 10-yard run with 32.6 seconds on the clock.
Blinn landed on the board when Terrance Keyes Jr. rushed the ball in from the 19-yard line with 11:51 left in the third quarter. Cisco answered back with a 40-yard rushing touchdown at the 8:12 mark to lead 35-7. The Wranglers extended their lead to 42-7 with 3:11 remaining in the third quarter on a six-yard rushing touchdown.
Logan McDougald connected with Henry Thomas for a 50-yard touchdown pass for the Buccaneers to trail 42-14 with 10:32 remaining. Then, Cisco scored the final touchdown of the game on a nine-yard rushing touchdown with 4:03 left to go.
Next, the Buccaneers will take a break from conference play with a game against Southern Shreveport on Saturday, April 10, at 4 p.m. at Cub Stadium.
Blinn has competed in intercollegiate athletics since 1903 and captured 41 NJCAA national championships since 1987.
