Four years ago Deputy C.J. Lehman of the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office was shot in the face with a 12 gauge shotgun and left permanently blinded. On Tuesday August 9th, an Austin County Jury found Shazizz Mateen guilty for the offense of Aggravated Assault on a Public Servant and he was sentenced to Life in Prison and a $10000 fine. Shazizz’s trial was transferred to Austin County to insure that a fair jury selection was possible.
The Austin County Commissioners Court met on Monday, August 8, 2022 at 9am on the second floor of the Austin County Courthouse to discuss the business of the county. The following video is of that meeting.
The Sealy City Council was given an update on the Allen’s Creek Reservoir Project during the City Council Meeting by Kathy Dominquez. The project is moving forward by beginning the US Army Corps of Engineers 404 permitting process. This process could take up to 10 years and construction is not expected to begin until 2030 at the earliest.
Many in Austin County have had concerns about the pipeline that is to run through Austin County. The Matterhorn Express Pipeline will stretch across Texas cutting right through the middle of Austin County. As the courthouse has been contacted more and more with questions on the project, Austin County Judge Tim Lapham had representatives come and give the commissioners court a presentation on the pipeline and how exactly it would affect Austin County.
The Austin County Commissioners Court met on Wednesday, August 3, 2022 at 2 pm for an in-service where Matterhorn Express Pipeline representatives gave a full presentation and answered questions concerning the proposed pipeline going through Austin County.
The Austin County EMS hosted the The Texas A&M Engineering Extension Service (TEEX) driving simulator as well as Waller County EMS, City of Wharton EMS and East Bernard EMS as guests to take part in the class with them. The system provides a 180 degree driver simulation of real life scenarios to help staff be more prepared in making defensive driving decisions.
