The Austin County Sheriff’s Department released the following press release for Austin County:
“On Wednesday, August 26th at approximately 4:00 p.m., Sheriff Brandes was advised that DEA Houston National Guard Counter Drug Program helicopter located a marijuana grow in Austin County. They furnished coordinates of the grow to Austin County Narcotics officers and then on Thursday, August 28, 2015, at 10:00 a.m., Sheriff Brandes, along with a Sheriff’s Department Narcotics Officer, flew over the location and on-viewed the area. On Thursday at 2:45 p.m., the Austin County Special Response Team entered the area and found no people tending the grow and no one near the site. Once the location was secure, Austin County Deputies, SRT Officers, County Commissioners and Road and Bridge employees entered the area and removed the marijuana and cultivating equipment. The site was located on Brazos River Authority land off of FM 1458 near Allen’s Creek. The responding group removed 8,653 marijuana plants, one gas generator, one gas water pump and one electric water pump along with other small items. A tent, food, clothing, water reservoir, electric lines and water lines were located and destroyed. On Friday, August 28, 2015, at 10:30 a.m., all marijuana plants were destroyed. The Austin County Sheriff’s Office would like to thank the DEA Houston National Guard Counter Drug Program, Austin County Commissioners and Road and Bridge employees for participating in the removal of the marijuana grow. “The help from DEA, Austin County Commissioners and Austin County Road and Bridge employees is very much appreciated. To have all this support and help from DEA and within the county is a great thing. Here we have citizens that didn’t have to respond, but did in order to keep our county safe, and that is a great thing. Thank You!” says Sheriff Jack Brandes.”
