BEEVILLE, Texas – No. 13 Blinn College volleyball was able to cap a perfect 3-0 weekend by beating conference foe Coastal Bend College 3-1 and non-conference Cisco College 3-0 Saturday afternoon in Beeville.

With the pair of victories, the Buccaneers improved to 3-0 in Region XIV play and 12-6 overall. Blinn is now riding a five-game winning streak.

Blinn 3 – Coastal Bend 1

Blinn started out the match fast and took the first set but struggled in the second to split the first two sets. The Buccaneers rebounded and claimed the last two sets for the 3-1 victory by the score 25-19, 22-25, 25-10 and 25-19.

Paola Marie Salas Adorno led Blinn with 18 kills and 14 digs while adding two aces. Alexis Kingston added 17 kills and hit for a .333 percentage. Kylee Kaaihue had a solid game dishing out 54 assists in the win.

The first set started out strong for Blinn in a 25-19 win but the second set was a different story as the Buccaneers dug themselves a little hole. At one point, Blinn trailed by seven points but was able to make a little comeback to make the second set presentable but Coastal Bend still took the second 25-22.

The third and fourth sets both belonged to Blinn as the Buccaneers won the third handily 25-10 and then polished off the match with a 25-19 victory to move to 3-0 in conference.

“We just took good care of the ball and made great passes,” said Kalie Mader, Blinn head coach. “All of our hitters were in the positive for us against Coastal Bend.”

Blinn 3 – Cisco 0

Even though Blinn won in a sweep it didn’t come easily the entire match as Cisco had Blinn trailing by 11 points in the second set but the Buccaneers fought back for the sweep by the score 25-19, 25-23 and 25-13.

Adorno again led Blinn in kills with 11 and added 11 digs. Ashleigh Traylor also got in double digits with 10 kills and hit for a .412 hitting percentage. Shayla Eugene led the Buccaneers with 15 digs and Kaaihue handed out 31 assists.

The first set went pretty smoothly in taking it 25-19 but the second set started out rough. At one point, Cisco led by 11 points but the Buccaneers found a way to fight back and claim the second set 25-23. Riding the momentum, Blinn won easily in the third 25-13 to secure the sweep.

Blinn will continue in Region XIV when the Buccaneers will play host to San Jacinto College-Central at Brenham High School Tuesday, Sept. 20 at 6 p.m.
